80,000 'educational' apps on the AppStore.

This is a great article backed by pedagogy offering four ways to help decide whether an app has educational value or not.

With so many apps to choose from and children spending increasing amounts of time engaged in app play it can be a minefield for both parents and teachers alike to find appropriate apps that encourage real and deep learning rather than simple swiping, beeping and flashing.  I was particularly interested in the information about 'enhanced' ebooks for younger children.  I agree that the enhancements may well reduce the amount of talking about and comprehension of the story I do think that they may have a part to play in increasing the enjoyment and amount of reading for 'reluctant readers'.
